5 Gorgeous Table Lamps Guaranteed to Elevate and Illuminate Your Home
Lighting is one of the most important elements in the design of a room and, unfortunately, the last thing most people consider. Most “make do” with the ever-present ceiling light (yuck - I’ll explain why in a second!), and maybe a task light where they like to read.
Here’s why I gave a big old YUCK to ceiling lights: Ceiling lighting is the most unflattering light for most of us because it casts shadows down our faces giving us all black bags under our eyes. Doncha hate black bags under your eyes?
Unless you want to make everyone who comes over look like the walking dead, bring the lighting down a bit so it actually illuminates their faces! One of the best ways to do that is with a collection of beautiful table lamps.
Designers differ as to how much lamp lighting should be placed in a room. One I know requires a minimum of 6! It depends on the size of the room and what you are trying to accomplish.
Here are my guidelines:
Rooms look best with at least 3 sources of lighting.
The pools of light they cast on the floor should overlap so that there are no dark spots or corners. (Or bags … I digress!)
Of course, all your lighting sources, whether they are ceiling or wall, or decorative, task, or ambient, should be fitted with dimmer switches. That way you have total control over the mood you want your visitors to experience at any given occasion!
Enough of the rules! Let’s go shopping!
I’ve curated 5 beautiful table lamps for you to explore and enjoy. You may notice I have a thing for blue and white as you view them. Sorry - California girl all the way!
Bianca Vine Hand Painted Urn Shape Tole Table Lamp
This beautiful lamp is the perfect height to make a statement, 32” high. It is reminiscent of romantic French and Italian themes as well as Asian with its pagoda-like stance. Classic navy and white bring a crisp airiness to any room and the brass detailing gives it extra shine. Find yours here.
Hanover Navy Cross-Base Lamp
You could just about fall into the gorgeous blue lacquer finish of this piece. Coupled with gold-leaf detailing and a crisp white shade, the materials alone will knock you off your feet! The shape of the base, though, is a thoroughly modern cross, giving even more surface for the navy lacquer to float on! A traditional color story given a very modern form, it would look fabulous across many different styles including transitional, contemporary, and modern coastal. Once again, I’m smitten … Grab yours here. (Sorry … this gorgeous item is no longer available. Sad face.)
Annelore Table Lamp
At 16 ½” tall, this little confection of a table lamp is substantial in style. First, a block of brilliant marble stacked above and below with metallic plates in an antique brass finish. The cherry on top is a sizeable block finial in the same finish. So clean and simple in its design, it makes a big impact. Perfect for a powder room or nightstand. Make it yours here.
Piers Mottled Blue Buffet Lamp
This lamp satisfies my penchant for both blue and a little bling! The ceramic base is glazed in a muted blue with rust distressing for lovely organic contrast. Polished nickel brings on the shine and echoes a rather modern disc of crystal. I also love the slender silhouette of this fixture. It is tall enough to be a statement piece but will fit in tighter spaces if necessary. This would be perfectly at home in contemporary and more traditional surroundings and the star of one lucky buffet or sofa table! Get yours here.
Malaprop Table Lamp
I love this piece and have used it in a number of designs of varying decor styles. Its ample ceramic base hints at the infamous Delftware of the Netherlands with a classic blue and white finish, yet in a sort of abstract basketweave texture it fits in with more contemporary settings, as well. Clear acrylic supports the base and brings added sparkle to its finely finished top. I adore this lamp! Purchase yours here.
With table lamps as stunning as these, why would anybody be happy to settle for the ceiling dome light? Brighten the faces of your family and guests with the perfect illumination from one of these beautiful pieces (or three) … (or six!).
Don’t forget the dimmer switches!
