How to Guarantee Like-New Furnishings for Your Listing Without the Lengthy Lead Time

There is no getting around it - We have officially entered the era of WAIT TIMES. After decades of nearly instant gratification, live streaming, and microwave-everything, our culture has been forced to learn how to queue up and wait in line for goods and services.

Virtually every industry has been affected, and the home industry unfortunately is not exempt. So … we learn to take a parasympathetic breath and embrace the delays.

Of course, in the area of home furnishings, there are some things you can do to offset those lead times from buying something new ...

1. Revive “Well-Loved” Pieces with Reupholstery

There are numerous reasons for going this route, including having your decorating project finished in a more timely manner. Many are opting to redesign their quality seating pieces with fresh materials that keep their style goals in mind, and their old furniture frames out of the landfill!

A surge of popularity in the antique market has increased prices dramatically because of this. Still, when you examine the workmanship of articles made before everything was mass-manufactured, you may still consider them to be a good deal.

2. Refresh Sofas with Slipcovers & New Cushions

A less permanent and pricey version of upholstery, slipcovers give the added value of being machine washable - a boon when hosting young families and pet-owners! Having an extra set on hand allows versatility throughout the seasons. Throw pillows can benefit from a similar treatment. Simply sewing a new cover the size and shape of the pillow can instantly refresh your accessory and your look!

If your couch is sagging, you may be able to rebuild the cushions by adding additional foam. Are you game to fix the couch yourself? Here is an article on how to administer some cushion TLC, as well as additional sofa repairs from The Spruce.

3. Upcycle Your Current Furnishings into New Designs

If you still love the pattern of that old sofa and find yourself looking to replace it because it is worn in some spots, you could give this a try:

If there is enough good fabric to cover at least one side of a pillow or two, consider using it to recover those soft accessories, and then find a complimentary fabric to reupholster the sofa! This may be a great way to refresh your color scheme and still keep what you love about your current design!

These days may have forced us to act with a little more ingenuity, but I believe this is where great genius can be found!

Reviving our older furnishings can be gratifying and fun, especially when you consider the environmental impact we can have because of it!

Best of all, at least in this case, we won't have to wait as long! Beauty doesn't always have to hurt ; )
