Want the Rental Property Known for Ultimate Hospitality? Check Out Our Tips for Accessible Design

Creating a property that is gracious and welcoming should be the first priority for hosts in the residential hospitality industry. So it behooves the savvy investor to ensure their rental listing is inclusive and accessible for guests who need special accommodation.

1. Accommodate Step-Free Access

If you are lucky enough to have a single-level property, you already have an advantage. But if you don't, consider how you could make the main floor a place where one with physical challenges can reside comfortably. Those with limited mobility may require ramps to move from level to level. Having a ramp at the home's entry is an important first step. An elevator or stairlift would also be incredibly helpful.

2. Design Wider Doorways & Hallways

Keep living spaces open and uncluttered with wider space between furniture groupings. To accommodate the use of a wheelchair, keep pathways, hallways, and doors at least 36" wide., which is the minimum ADA compliance standard.

3. Provide Shower Stools & Beautiful Grab Bars

Ordinary bathrooms present numerous hazards for the physically impaired. A curbless shower is a great feature to include for safety and convenience. Installing lovely metallic grab bars will upgrade the beauty of your shower and assist those with balance difficulties. Shower stools and telephone shower heads are another luxurious way to help guests feel comfortable and pampered.

4. Lower All Light Switches

When viewing the world from the height of a wheelchair, you realize even the location of a typical light switch can present a challenge. Lowering light switches isn't a difficult modification to make. Switching out doorknobs for levers is another easy modification to make. If possible, consider lowering countertops for even greater convenience.

More information and ideas can be found by searching ADA-compliant homes. Hopefully, you can find appropriate ways to alter your property that will make it a beautiful, accessible, and inclusive haven for everyone who chooses you for their hospitality needs!
