After years of sharing your home and making considerations for the desires of family members, decorating the empty nest is your opportunity to discover and embrace your own tastes and sense of style. Indulge in items and decor that are meaningful to you and the things you love in life. What do you want to surround yourself with? Art? Travel mementoes? Musical instruments? What memories and experiences fill your heart's tank? Fill your rooms to fill your soul.

2. Repurpose Rooms for Old Hobbies or New Interests

Just because a space used to serve as a bedroom or dining room, doesn't mean it can't be something different now! Convert it into a space that allows you to pursue an old hobby - or even a new interest. Always wanted to try yoga? Make it your own private studio! Plan for functionality that will serve you well now and as you age in place. If you are remaining in a multi-story home, think about ways you can spend most of your time on the main floor so that stairs don't create a problem for you down the road. Smart Home features can make life more convenient for you now, and be a life-saver later on. Keep an eye on how you can accommodate future needs as you recreate your living spaces now.
